Scripture of the Week: Don't Be Tricked By Guilt

Romans 8:1-2 (New International Version)

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death."

The enemy loves to trick us into carrying things God has already freed us from. One of his greatest hits? Guilt. Why? Because guilt keeps us focused on our past rather than on God’s grace. It tells us we’re too shameful to approach Him—or worse, it lets us come to God while constantly reminding us of who we used to be.

But thank God for His Word and His promises. God settled the issue of guilt in Romans 8. “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” When we continue to live under guilt, we are choosing not to receive a gift God has already given. If we believe His Word, we have to believe this too.

Ask God to help you accept His gift of freedom from guilt. His desire is not for you to live burdened, ashamed, or distant—but free, confident, and close to Him. Nothing that pulls you away from God comes from Him.

Remember to:

1. Call guilt out by name

When guilt shows up, don’t just feel it—identify it. Say (out loud if you can):“This is guilt, not conviction, and it has no authority over me.”Truth disarms lies.

2. Replace the thought immediately

Don’t argue with guilt—replace it with Scripture.Repeat: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”What you rehearse, you reinforce.

3. Move toward God, not away

When shame tells you to hide, do the opposite. Pray. Worship. Open your Bible.Guilt pulls you back—grace pulls you closer.
